Taylor Swift has announced that her fourth re-recorded album, 1989 (Taylor's Version), will be released on October 27, 2023. The album will feature 21 songs, including five never-before-released "vault tracks."

1989 was Swift's sixth studio album and her first full-length pop album. It was released in 2014 and was a critical and commercial success, becoming the best-selling album of the year in the United States. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Shake It Off," "Blank Space," and "Style."

Swift announced the re-recording of 1989 in June 2021, as part of her plan to re-record her first six albums after Scooter Braun acquired her former record label, Big Machine Records. Braun has since sold the master recordings of Swift's first six albums to a private equity firm, but Swift has said that she plans to re-record them anyway in order to own her own music — a fight for ownership that's part of what's made her one of the highest-paid entertainers in the world.

The re-recording of 1989 has been highly anticipated by Swift's fans — including close friend Selena Gomez, whose decade-plus friendship with Swift has often included cheering on each other's music milestones — who are eager to hear her new take on the album's classic songs. Swift has said that she has been working on the re-recording for "a long time," and that she is "so excited" to share it with the world.

In addition to the 21 songs that were on the original 1989 album, the re-recording will also feature five never-before-released "vault tracks." These songs were written during the same time period as the original album, but were not included on the final tracklist.
